In class: We are doing DRAs to see where the students are after the summer time. This year in our whole school, we are using Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing. We will begin our year with teaching students how to explain the major differences between poems, drama, and prose. We continue to work on the students writing skills. They will write a narrative piece showing that they know how to organize their ideas that unfold naturally. This includes using correct capitalization, punctuation, transitions, and so forth. We will recap what pronouns and relative adverbs are and how to use them correctly. Another refresher will be dialogue. Within reading, on students level, the students will begin explaining the characters wants and needs. This is just our starting points for August! We, Ms. Hadden and I, are looking forward to working with your student!
